[CQUeST] Guideline for the Center Post-doc

Visa (E-3)


1. What is the E-3 Visa and a certificate for Recognition of Visa Issuance?

  E-3 visa is for the researcher .

  A certificate for Recognition of Visa Issuance is for faciliating visa issuance processes. Korean missions abroad are, when appropriate, issuing Korean visas in accordance with a certificate for Recognition of Visa Issuance.

  For some categories of visas, the submission of a certificate for Recognition of Visa Issuance is basically mandatory

 If a foreigner submits a certificate for Recognition of Visa Issuance to a Korean mission overseas, he/she can benefit from expedited visa issuance processes


2. What is Required for the E-3 Visa?


- Required documents

  a copy of passport

  photo(3545) - 5 units

  doctoral degree certification - 2 units

  a copy of passport and photo(3 units) - (dependents)  
   the certificate that prove the family relations

      (if you want to come with dependents) 


3. How long it will take to get the E-3 Visa ?

   Usually, It takes about 20~40 days.

 To get a Korean visa by use of a certificate for Recognition of Visa Issuance, the following steps should be taken

Step 1)

 An invitor in Korea makes an application for a certificate for Recognition of Visa Issuance to a local or distrcit Immigration office having jurisdiction over the place of his/her residence

Step 2)

 A Korean invitor recieves a certificate for Recognition of Visa Issuance from an Immigration office and sends it to his/her invitee overseas

Step 3)

 The visa applicant submits a certificate for Recognition of Visa Issuance to a Korean mission overseas, along with other documents required, when applying for a visa.

   

Note) A certificate for Recognition of Visa Issuance is not equal to a Korean visa.

     You should apply for a visa at the embassies and legations in your country with the visa permit number.

  



Insurance 


1.  What health insurance coverage is available for post-doc fellows?


Postdoc fellows may enroll in the Health Insurance Plan and National Penstion(Obligation) for the duration of their postdoc fellow appointment.


2.  Is prescription drug coverage or dental included?


  Prescription drug coverage is included. And Health Insurance Plan partially provide dental insurance coverage.(For example, extraction of a tooth, medical treatment of nerves or inflammation etc)               


3.  Who pays for postdoc fellow health insurance coverage?


  Funds are taken from the postdocs individual award and institutional(CQUeST) award to pay for coverage. 

  Rates - Health insurance : about 1.66% of the salary

              National Pension : about 4.49% of the salary 

  Health insurance deducts about 70% of medical expenses. 

4.  Can postdoc fellows enroll dependents in health insurance?


 Yes, eligible dependents include post-docs spouse and unmarried children.


Prices of commodities


  Food expenses - about 3,000 won ~ 5,000won

  Traffic expenses - Bus : 800 won (If you use the traffic card, you can transfer to other bus and subway without extra charge.)

                                   Subway : 800~1,200 won (If you use the traffic card, you can transfer to other bus and subway without extra charge.)

                                   Taxi : 1,900 won (2Km) + 100 won (per 144)

  Housing - The lease of a room on a deposit basis for 1 year or 2 years

  (One room)   (Housing deposits : 10,000,000~30,000,000 won)  

                     
                     Monthly rent (Housing deposits : 5,000,000~20,000,000 won

                                          Rent pay : 400,000~800,000 per month)

 

  Residence - there are two type of resedence you can stay without deposit.

                 1) Women's residence(coco residence)

                    Location : near the Ewha Woman's University

                   (The journey CQUeST from the residence takes 25min on foot,

                    and 10min by bus)

        Mini Room : 300,000 won/month (include public use rest room for 4 people)

        One Room : 500,000 won/month (include an individual rest room)


                   2) Common residence

                     Location : near the Sogang University

                     (The journey CQUeST from the residence takes 15min on foot,

                      and 5-10min by bus)

        Mini Room : 350,000 won/month (include public use rest room for 4 people)

        One Room : 500,000 won/month (include an individual rest room)


        and all residence provide the standard convenient and subsidiary facilities.


         Furniture : a wardrobe, a bed, a dest and chair, TV, Internet service...

              (It serves the rice, egg, instant noodle, coffee, green tea every day.)

         Public kitchen : a sink, a refrigerator, a water purifier, a microwave oven...

         Publec laundry room : drum washing machine

         Public business room : a computer, a monitor...
